-To reduce the impact of RMON on system performance, the sampling interval of the history control table should be longer than 10 seconds. In addition, an interface cannot be configured with too many entries for the history control table and alarm table.
-If the RMON statistics function is not enabled on an interface, statistics in the RMON statistics table and history table are 0.

Run:nap login neighbor The login to the slave device from the master device is performed.
If the slave device has an empty configuration, you can log in to the slave device from the master device without a user name and a password.
If, however, the slave device is configured with user name(s) and password(s), you must enter the correct user name and password to perform a NAP-based remote login to the slave device.

NOTE:
To ensure security for NAP, the slave device having an empty configuration checks the source address of the Telnet login. If the Telnet source address is the NAP address of the master device that is telnetting to the slave device, the slave device allows the master device to directly log in without being authenticated. This is because by default, the user level of the remote login based on the NAP address is the same as the login through the console interface, which enjoys the highest user level. If the Telnet source address is not the NAP address of the master device, the remote login fails.
If ip source check user-bind enable command is executed on an interface, the interface cannot connect to the NAP neighbor.

SF300-24 Layer 3 mode routing problem 12-12-17


Question
SF300-24 routing. S5700-52C-SI That's network configuration:

Port 1 to 12 assigned to VLAN 10
Port 13 to 23 assigned to VLAN 20
Port 24 has an ip 10.17.7.254 to connect with my deafult route, beacuse also a Linksys RV042 router, connected in turn with my ISP router, having an ip 10.17.7.1.


VLAN 10 has 10.17.10.1
VLAN 20 has 10.17.20.1

So add a default route on SF300-24 to 10.17.7.1 to get Internet connection.

That's the problem:

Computer A is connected to VLAN 10 on port 1
Compuer B is connected to VLAN 20 on port 13

A e B can talk perfectly each other, and also to port 24 (10.17.7.254), but when I try to ping my Linksys RV042 (10.17.7.1) or reach Internet everything fail.
Instead when I logged into SF300-24 and try to ping Linksys RV042 (10.17.7.1) or reach the Internet, everything works fine!

Answer:
Yes, need to set up S5700-28C-EI static routes on the router.

Huawei S5700-EI Comprehensive reliability mechanisms


The S5700-EI supports enhanced S5352C-EI trunk (E-Trunk) that enables a CE to be dual-homed to two PEs (S5700s). E-Trunk greatly enhances link reliability between devices and implements link aggregation between devices. This improves reliability of access devices.

The S5700-EI supports the Smart Ethernet Protection (SEP) protocol, a ring network protocol applied to the link layer on an Ethernet network. SEP can be used on open ring networks and can be deployed on upper-layer aggregation devices to provide fast switchover (within 50 ms), ensuring non-stop transmission of services. SEP features simplicity, high reliability, fast switchover, easy maintenance, and flexible topology, facilitating network planning and management.

The S5700-EI supports VRRP, and can set up VRRP groups with other Layer 3 switches. VRRP provides redundant routes to ensure stable and reliable communication. Multiple equal-cost routes to an uplink device can be configured on the S5700-EI to provide route redundancy. When an active route is unreachable, traffic is switched to a backup route.

The S5700-EI supports BFD, which provides millisecond-level fault detection for protocols such as OSPF, IS-IS, VRRP, and PIM to improve network reliability. Complying with IEEE 802.3ah and 802.1ag, the S5700-EI supports point-to-point Ethernet fault management and can detect faults in the last mile of an Ethernet link to users.

Several S5700s can be stacked to provide a 1000 Mbit/s access rate for terminals. Only four pairs of optical fibers are required to connect the stack to uplink devices. This reduces the number of optical fibers and ports needed on uplink devices and enhances network S5352C-PWR-SI reliability.

SLM2048


Am using the SLM 2048 as my core S2700-18TP-EI-AC switch in a small environment,for distribution switch I have ESW520, SRW2048,catalyst 2960 and another SLM2048.
Each of the distribution switches has a single link to the core.

Prior to deployment I configured a management IP address on the distribution switches but I did not on the core switch.Now I find it difficult to connect to the web page and assign a management ip on the core switch

Just out of interest, are these the End of sale  SLM2048 Linksys branded switches or the replacement new technology cisco branded switch with part number SLM2048T-NA   ?

You have to be able to get to the management interface.  The smart switch has only a GUI interface with a default IP qaddress assigned, if you don't alter the default address.

I would suggest you grab to quickstart guide for you product, which is freely downloadable.

The quickstart guide for the newer product, SLM2048T-NA says;

In order to access the switch with a web-based interface, you must know the management IP address of the switch. The default configuration of the switch is to use its factory default IP address of 192.168.1.254 until it has obtained an IP address from a DHCP server, or it has been changed to a static IP address.
When the switch is using the factory default IP address, its System LED flashes continuously.

for this newe switch, you have to place a PC in that network  and access the GUI or find out of the switch received a IP address via DHCP.  You may find that you may have to, if possible , reduce the network complexity and switch connections and try to access the switch GUI maybe afterhours.

If it's under warranty, S2700-26TP-EI-AC you can try http://www.cisco.com/go/sbsc to see if there is a problem with the management interface.

Console cable for SRW2048


lost the original console cable to the Cisco Linksys SRW2048 and was wondering if I can use the Cisco console cable or can a regular serial cable with female ends will work?
A cisco console cable probably won't work since they usually have RJ-45 on one end.  However, a regular serial cable should work just fine, as long as your computer has one as well, or you have a USB to serial adapter.

The settings for the console port are as follows:
Bits per second: 38,400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop bits: 1
Flow control: None

Once you open the connection you'll have to hit enter once to make anything display.

You can also acces the console of this switch through telnet, by connecting to the switches IP with a telnet client and use admin as the username with a blank password.
